The Clash...

Dress, Scarf (on hat) and Bangles: vintage
Hat: Forever 21
Shoes: Mollini

Just a quick post because as usual… I have so much work to do and so little time.

A bunch of uni friends and I threw a Mexican themed get together, complete with tacos, burritos, freshly made guac, tequila, margharitas, Coronas and a piñata. It’s supposed to be the mid-semester “break” but any engineering student knows that the “mid-semester break” is actually appropriately called “catch-up week”. There was no costume requirement but I decided to pull out this ethnic printed vintage kaftan I picked up at a local thrift store. It’s such an effortless statement piece, I couldn’t believe my luck when I found it!

I decided to go bright with my makeup too and whipped out my MAC “Royal Wink” Gel Eyeliner. I love clashing colours so I couldn’t think of anything better than fluoro orange lips in the form of MAC “Morange”. I love getting into oranges and corals now that summer is just around the corner in the southern hemisphere!

Well you know I look like a woman but I...

I'm loving this video directed by the star, Jack White himself. It's so stark and mysterious and the belly dancer is smokin' hot!

I Cut Like a buffalo...

Silk Cuout Blouse: Maurie & Eve
Shorts: True Religion
Tie: Belt from a One Teaspoon dress
Tights: House of Holland
Shoes: Mollini
Bag: Vintage

Outfit:
The blouse is by Australian designer "Maurie & Eve". I love it. I live in loose white tees and I love that this is in a lovely lux silk and the cutout details make it that little bit different. I wan't going for the naughty school girl (or boy?) look but looking at the photos that's the first thing I think of with these pics.I think I like it..

I added the scarf at the ended because I decided I wanted something patterned to break up the block colours. I really love mixing leopard print with burgundy. This was the belt from one of my favourite One Teapoon dresses. These shoes I bought years ago. I love that I recycle my shoes. I'm not the type to wear something to death for one season and banish to the deep crevices of my cluttered wardrobe. I think the best pieces are the ones that are able to be reinvented season after season.

Cat Rantings:

And next, big apologies for my brief absence. I took a two day trip to Sydney and have been so busy, but… I have exciting news (for me at least)!! One of the reasons I went down to Sydney was to attend an interview at the U.S. Consulate and I was granted a one year working visa!! I’m sooo excited! I’ll be in the States before the year is out =) I’ll be predominantly based in Florida, so anyone here from Florida, feel free to give me a shoutout! I would love to meet new people and get advice on everything, shopping, employment etc. Super excited!! Keep posted for my updates on the matter!

Also, I’m like massively crushing on Jack White right now… Jack White, if you read this, you are welcome to take my last name any day!

PS. Totally rockin’ Astro Boy hair today, because, like most days, I am too lazy to do anything about it…

PPS. Did you notice the random little knot in the hemline of my top? I don’t really know why they designed that to be there, it kind of looks like a tiny appendage in my crotch region… hmmm

I was going to call you Velvet Underground...

Velvet Maxi Skirt: Ralph Lauren
Scarf: Vintage
Necklace: Vintage
Bag: Gifted
Shoes: Hong Kong

The name obviously is referring to my black velvet maxi skirt which I bought several weeks ago and have finally coerced out of my wardrobe. I love this top, it’s so versatile and it’s actually fairly long. Although, the velvet of the skirt combined with the tiers underneath do appear to have a bulking property and has appeared to add about 5lbs to my frame. But no worries, I like this outfit anyway and I hope it translates as well in photos.

The shoes are from Hong Kong, surprisingly good quality for the price I got them for. I need to go back to HK again soon! The belt is from a dress that I bought from Vietnam. I also have the urge to return to Vietnam!

So, thank god it’s the weekend. Yesterday was one of those days… It started with me stumbling over my regular Starbucks order which I can usually fire out at about 12 words per second, and them trying to pay for said order wiith my buscard… and then staring blankly at the barista who laughed at me and said “Well I guess I could try this… but uhhh… would you like an extra shot in your coffee?” At least I think I made his day.

Plus, this skirt has absolutely no stretch whatsover making it a bad choice for days when I am rushing around. Actually, scrap that, if I need to walk, it’s impracticle due to the fact that I am a natural power walker and I have the attitude of “if I’m not early, then I’m late” making me late 90% of the time, all the time. I really need someone to bring back hoop skirts… just a thought?

Tried it, Rate it: Freeze Online Store

So I stumbled across this website the other day and decided to have a look around and I was impressed by the range of reasonably priced stuff they have in store. Brands like MinkPink and Ladakh are the first to come to mind, but they also stock Finders Keepers and Anise, amongst many others, as well as their own brand, Freez! They also stock a bunch of cute jewellery by Ausko, Gabby and Sarroff.

I found a bunch of stuff I liked but having never heard of the website before, I ended up scoping the sale section for a trial buy. I ended up purchasing the following items (photos courtesy of freeze.com.au):

MINKPINK Moonlight Hours Velvet Maxi $15.00 AUD

LADAKH Laneway Tee $29.00 AUD

Postage for these were a flate $7.70 AUD which is cheap enough as it is, but then I got the most pleasant surprise, my order was processed within 12 hours of making the order, and the package arrived within 24 hours of receiving the order confirmation! What a great service. My items arrived in immaculate condition and very accurately described.

I plan on ordering from them again, I have my eye on a couple of pieces. Just thought I would spread the word. I hope someone will benefit from this heads up. Enjoy!

Because friends don't waste wine...

Top: Cooper St
Shorts: Valleygirl (also seen here)
Bag: STEVE By Steve Madden
Shoes: GoJane
Body Chain Harness: DIY

Another set of pics from the other day that I thought long and hard about not posting. As you can see, it was already fairly dark so the pictures were rushed and not the best quality! But I ended up getting really good feedback from my fellow Chictopians (by the way, my Chictopia account is here) so decided to include it.

The chain harness was a diy project that turned out pretty well. I bought some chains from ebay and just went crazy, building it and designing it as I went along. It took longer than I would have imagined though, but it was worth it. I get so many compliments =)

The top is by Australian brand "Cooper St" and I fell in love with the colour and the flattering grecian draping. The bag I picked up during my first trip to New York from a random Steve Madden sale somewhere in the lower Eastside while we were waiting for a table for dinner. I also picked up a couple of other pairs of shoes for a bargain! I love these shoes too! I love the colour and the suede like fabric and the lace ups at the front. They were an absolute bargain from gojane!

I had a girls night the other night and my friend made mulled wine, which I had never had before. It was AMAZING! I’m not much of a red wine drinker, it’s still a bit intense for me, but the fruit and spices really mellowed it out and made it sooo drinkable. Also, the night got a bit chilly, since we’re still transitioning from winter, so when it was served warm, drinking it felt like I was warming my soul! We also indulged in about 6 different types of cheese and quince paste and one of my friends baked us all wonderful desser treats! It was a fun night, I love my girls!!

Pimps don't cry...

Sweater: Witchery
Shorts: LUCETTE
Shoes: ASOS
Turban Beanie: Mimco
Studded Clutch: Topshop

So if you have seen “The Other Guys”, my title will make sense to you… if you haven’t, you probably should, as long as you like Will Ferrell movies. We had actually planned to see “Despicable Me” in 3D but when we got there (40 minutes early) it was already sold out =( I had my 3D glasses ready to go in my bag and everything! The Other Guys was a satisfactory substitution though, it tickled my funny bone.

So the weather took a turn for the worst, and it’s been overcast or raining for the last 3 days, not ideal conditions for outfit photography. But it made me realise how much I love the in-between seasons and the clothing that goes with it. I’m a big fan of contradictory pieces, like summer cuts in winter fabrics or vice versa. That probably explains why I love this giant, thick, chunky alpaca wool sweater, even if it has short sleeves and seems totally impractical. Other contradictory clothing items I love are leather shorts and oversized sheer sweaters. Same goes to ankle boots, perfect for in between seasons!

A bonus photo, my dog, who regularly takes interest when I'm taking my outfit photos (he's attracted to any thing that flashes or has a reflection), wondered into one of my shots. He's not the most photographic dog... Looks a lil' crazy most of the time =) but I love him!

My Dress Smells Like Beer...

Dress: State of Georgia
Necklace: Gift, from Bondi Markets
Shoes: Mollini Wedges

I ummed and ahhed about posting this set of pics. I didn’t love how they turned out and I worry that they don’t reflect how amazing this dress is! Also I feel as though I may have underaccessorised, although that was partially deliberate so that the attention remained on the dress (not that it would be easy to divert!).

I realise I don’t smile much in my photos. I swear I’m not a grumpy, misery-guts with zero personality, I’m usually just concentrating so hard on capturing the outfit and also trying to remember not to blink. I swear I’m an absolute expert at blinking at the exact time that the self-timer goes off. Especially if I set the timer to take a bunch of shots in one go, I find myself blinking in time with the camera. SO ANNOYING! Plus, I’m not much of a “smile on cue” type person. I have a bunch of photos that I might post sometime where you will see me smiling, usually it’s because my dogs have accidently walked into the shots with toy in mouth wanting to play or curious about what the crazy flashing is all about.

So I decided to post this outfit despite all of this. Mostly because the dress is amazing (check out the amazing back!!) but also to prove that my life is not all about uni and work, engineering students can have fun too! I went to a party hosted by some Medicine student friend. The party was organised as a beer pong tournament with the proceeds going towards the Pakistan Flood Relief. Of course, I only realised on arrival how innapropriate my outfit was, but it turned out fine once I kicked my heels off and knotted the hem of my dress (which is floor length with 4-inch heels on) so that I could go running after ping pong ball with ease! Luckily I had worn the black bustier underneath to preserve my dignity and avoid any wardrobe malfunctions.

My friend and I were in a team we called “2 Racks, No Balls” but we had to pull out of the competition early because my partner had to leave early =( none the less we won our first game (against the “Untoucha-balls”) so we extrapolated and assumed we would have taken it out had we stayed in the comp. I had an awesome time which is usually the case when your clothing reaks of booze. Hope everyone else had an equally eventful weekend!

Just to add a little something extra to this post. I figured I would feature a few pieces from State of Georgia's eclectic Spring/Summer 2011 collection that I love! These pieces are available from Harlow Online. Photos courtesy of their website.

STATE OF GEORGIA Boyfriend Shirt $110.00 AUD
STATE OF GEORGIA Poolside Shorts $88.00 AUD

STATE OF GEORGIA Ophelia Dress $198.00 AUD

Shades of Blue and Grey...

Jacket: ASOS "Ruched Sleeve Drapey Blazer"
T-shirt: American Apparel "Sexuali-tee"
Scarf: Witchery
Skirt: Lee Denim
Shoes and bag: Boutiques in Hong Kong
Bracelet: Markets in Thailand

This was another one of my “teaching day” outfits from the other day. It’s pretty simple, but it’s a timeless look. I love mixing grey and blues when I’m going for a softer look.

I think AA sexuali-tees are some of the best purchases I’ve ever made. I have then in white and egg-shell blue (shown) and I truely wear them to death. They’re so slinky and the neckline is perfect! My only complaint is that they do pill after a while, but I would purchase another one in a heartbeat. This scarf is so versatile, I often wrap it up as a turban and have even experimented with it as a top. I love this Asos jacket, it’s currently available on their website and it’s now also available in Navy (here)!!

I love that spring is finally starting to show its face in the southern hemisphere and I’m actually surviving with bare legs (barely). I am an absolute wimp when it comes to the cold, my legs are the first to go into hibernation in winter, legs and tights are my best friends. So of course I’m so glad that it’s finally warming up a bit!
